Express News Service

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Karyakari Mandal (working committee) of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) adopted four resolutions at the end of its three-day meeting on Sunday.Speaking to newsmen, RSS joint general secretary Madandas Devi said the resolutions condemned the brutal murder of Swamy Laksmananda Swaraswathy and his four disciples in Kandhmal district of Orissa, the serial bomb blasts allegedly carried out by SIMI and Indian Mujahideen in various parts of the country, widespread carnage in Assam by Bangladeshi infiltrators. The committee congratulated the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti and the people of Jammu and Kashmir on their successful agitation against the revocation of land allotment to the Amarnath Shrine Board. The resolution demanded that a central legislation be enacted to ban religious conversions and criticised the Pope’s statement on violence against Christians in Orissa, Karnataka and other parts of the country as undesirable interference in the internal affairs of India.Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda were against conversions, it said and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and conspirators behind the murder of Swami. It blamed the State and Central Governments, saying they were trying to protect the real perpetrators by bringing the Maoist angle to the issue. The riots were missionary-infused socio-economic rivalry between the Kandh tribals and converted Panas, it said.Asked about the demand for ban on VHP and Banjrang Dal for their alleged involvement in the riots, Madandas said the RSS did not believe in violence and reminded that even the prime minister has said that banning organisations would not help.Madandas criticised the Jamia Milia Islamia University vice-chancellor for using his official position to support students arrested by the police for their alleged involvement in Jamia Nagar encounter. It was shameful that the Pakistani flag was hoisted by anti-India protesters in Srinagar during the Amarnath controversy, he said.
